The Kibugabuga-Shinga-Gasoro road upgrading project (66.55 km) aims to enhance the quality, sustainability, efficiency, and effectiveness of infrastructure facilities in Rwanda.
The project was constructed under a Design Build and Maintain (DBM) Contract as part of the World Bank Output and Performance Based Road Contract (OPRC), with Nicholas O’Dwyer serving as the Project Manager and Monitoring and Supervision Consultant.
The project involves upgrading the existing road to paved road standards, as well as maintaining and operating the completed road. Located in the Southern and Eastern Rwanda Region, the road starts in the Bugesera District at the junction point in Kibugabuga on the Kigali‐Nyamata‐Nemba trunk road (RN5) and ends at Gasoro, at the junction point on the Kigali‐Butare‐Akanyaru Road (RN1).
The upgraded Kibugabuga-Shinga-Gasoro road is expected to significantly promote the socioeconomic development of the area, including improving trade and public transport, opening new opportunities for tourism and investment, and supporting large-scale agricultural development as an import/export corridor.
