Appointed by Iarnród Eireann (Irish Rail) on a design services framework, Nicholas O’Dwyer designed several projects in the port area.

We prepared a master plan for the port to provide more efficient access, to expand the trailer storage areas and to incorporate a new freight check-in facility. The master plan included a review of the port strategic plan, a forecast of future trends in types and sizes of vessels and identification of additional facilities and services that will be required for the future developments.

We also designed a new extension to the existing ferry higher deck linkspan to cater for future vessels. For the Berth 3 Expansion we carried out an optioneering exercise to determine the most advantageous form of construction for a berth extension. As part of the upgrade and replacement of the berth’s linkspan we prepared scheme proposals, their evaluation, and submitted a foreshore licence application for the site investigation and prepared site investigation tender documents.

We have also prepared all necessary studies and information for a Foreshore License and Dump at Sea application for the annual dredging of the harbour and surrounding beach area.
