On this project in Dublin, Nicholas O’Dwyer was required to design and implement a flood alleviation scheme on behalf of Dublin City Council and South Dublin County Council.

This involved undertaking a detailed analysis of fluvial and pluvial flooding mechanisms, options development and local stakeholder consultation. An environmental impact assessment report and planning documentation were prepared for the preferred option and submitted for planning consent to An Bord Pleanála.

The proposed solution involved the reduction of hard defences by increasing flood storage in Tymon Park Lakes and river channel restoration to make use of natural flood plain and small flood storage in Ravensdale Park. In addition to flood prevention measures, water framework directive initiatives have been included with the addition of an integrated constructed wetland in Tymon Park, as well as biodiversity enhancements at Whitehall Close.
