In the first of a new format, we introduce two new and ambitious interns at Nicholas O’Dwyer. Varsha Ravindranath and Naveen Mathew have both recently begun their professional careers at Nicholas O’Dwyer. In the following interview, we delve into their experiences as part of the company’s marketing endeavours. With a passion for tackling real-world challenges, they embarked on an exciting opportunity to craft and execute a marketing strategy within the firm. Let’s take a closer look at their journey and the valuable insights they gained along the way.

How did you get into the role?

Varsha: We attended an internship fair hosted at Trinity College Dublin, where we met representatives from RSK and Nicholas O’Dwyer and pitched the idea of working on a marketing project together.

Naveen: In the following weeks, we followed up with the team to work out a suitable plan and discuss the scope of the project.

What drew you to the role at Nicholas O’Dwyer?

Naveen: For me, it was the opportunity to solve real-world problems and drive change in a reputed company with a long-standing history.

Varsha: I agree, it was great to apply our learning in a practical environment while still being students.

Can you tell me more about the role itself and your journey?

Varsha: The role itself is a first of its kind at Nicholas O’Dwyer. We are the first team members to be working full-time within a marketing function internally, so much of our work has centred on creating and implementing a marketing strategy for the company.

Naveen: Indeed, it was great to also serve in a consulting capacity as interns.

What support has been given to you by Nicholas O’Dwyer and your colleagues?

Naveen: The support has been tremendous, with the management being very invested in the progress and outcomes of our project.

Varsha: We always find that everyone is willing to lend a helping hand whenever we need anything. The folks at Nicholas O’Dwyer are extremely friendly, and we’ve felt at ease since our first day of work.

What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

Naveen: Initially, defining the exact scope of the project was a slight challenge considering that marketing is a new area of focus for Nicholas O’Dwyer.

Varsha: To overcome the challenge, we dedicated the first week entirely to chalking out the expectations and deliverables for the first two months of our internship with the management.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Nicholas O’Dwyer?

Varsha: Personally, it is the level of responsibility given to us. I really value the freedom I am given to be creative and make independent decisions. The culture at Nicholas O’Dwyer is such that we get to have close contact with senior-level management, which is great considering that we are at such an early stage of our careers.

Naveen: Absolutely, I feel like our ideas and suggestions are always received well by the team. This makes us further invested in our work and the company’s success.

What would you say to anyone thinking about applying for a role at Nicholas O’Dwyer?

Varsha: Totally go for it! Don’t hesitate to reach out to the HR team or the team members from other departments. They’re always super helpful.

Naveen: Oh yes, if you enjoy being part of a tight-knit team in which your individual contributions have a large impact, Nicholas O’Dwyer is the place for you.

What’s next for you?

Varsha: We’re set to graduate soon and are exploring opportunities within Nicholas O’Dwyer and RSK. We’d love to transform this internship into something permanent!

Naveen: Yeah, I think it would be great to continue working at Nicholas O’Dwyer. Our time here has set the ground for further interesting work, and we’re looking forward to being a part of it.
