🏆 Nicholas O'Dwyer Ltd are thrilled to announce that we have won the Award for Sustainability in the Natural Environment at this years Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland Engineering Excellence Awards 2023 for the Clifton Sewerage Treatment Plant Integrated Constructed Wetland (ICW)!
The project provides low energy, environmentally friendly, wastewater treatment with significant biodiversity benefits, promoting the UN Sustainability Development Goals. The scheme treats all flows from a small village in Yorkshire; the first of its type in the UK to treat all flows and the first biodiversity Net Gain positive wastewater treatment plant.
Comprising five individual, shallow, treatment ponds over half a hectare, housing more than 20,000 plants of 25 different species promoting nutrient uptake and a diverse habitat. The passive treatment process eliminates the need for energy heavy, chemical treatment processes.
We are very proud to be central to the delivery of this project with Barhale Ltd and Doosan Enpure JV for Yorkshire Water
The project delivers significant environmental and sustainable benefits in addition to valued learnings and baselining to further develop sustainable treatment plants and its role in climate resilience.
